ASD surgery and prognosis
Hi, my husband who is 49 and had enlarged heart with symptoms had ASD surgery over a year ago. We wanted to find out anyone who had the surgery with an enlarged heart and symptoms is doing years later?? How is your health now and is your heart shrinking down or still enlarged?? Any infor would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nicole

Hi Nicole,

I did has an enlarged heart prior to the surgery. My right heart was one half the size of my left heart. I've undergone a heart surgery last month and was told by my surgeon that my experience was pretty amazing because the right heart shrunk immediately after the patch is sealed. Prior to the surgery, I was told it will probably take a year to shrunk to normal size. I guess it varies, but it will shrink.
