So uh I am going to be honest. I am 5'6", female and 28 years old. I am 280 lbs, obviously overweight.
I am eating better and walking more now, but for the past 4 years I have suffered from terrible depression and hypochondria, also anxiety that makes me dizzy and everything else.
For the last few months, I have had this pain, to the left of my breastbone. Sometimes, it goes into my shoulder and down my arm. Its CONSTANT. I also get dizzy alot.
I have been to the ER multiple times, they did a CAT scan on my lungs in October, and showed nothing. Not sure if that would have shown heart or not. BUT, also have had x-rays, and multiple ekg's. My last ekg was about a month ago? maybe 2. I also have had cardiac bloodwork done in the last 6 months. Everything was normal so now everyone is saying i have acid refulx. Ranitidine and omeprazole dont help it. :/ Also the pains get really sharp and quick sometimes.
I am still scared. my grandparents died from strokes, and my Dad was born with heart palpitations, later having surgery on a nerve in his heart and having several heart attacks. My Grandfather had surgery on his heart, he was having left sided pain as well, but the surgery fixed it before he had an attack. My 2 year old niece was also born with a narrow aorta.
I smoke. I drink far too much coffee, and I have pretty much eaten fast food for the last 4 years every day due to depression. Like I said, now I am eating healthier and losing a bit of weight. But I am terrified this pain is like...a warning I am going to have a heart attack.
I have diagnosed acid reflux. They diagnose you after a camera is inserted into esophagus for 3 days-doesn't hurt. They can tell how bad it is by that. Mine is severe. It can cause discomfort but I've never had pain. Have you considered getting the true diagnosis of GERD/reflux from tests to see how bad it is rather than a Dr just saying you have it which is crazy to me. I take Omeprozole 2 times daily. Have you had stress tests for coronary artery disease? That's what causes most heart attacks. These are tests that might give you a few answers. A hiatal hernia with reflux can cause pain and they could see that while going down esophagus. A bad gallbladder can cause pain like that also. (That happened to me) It could also be a warning. I'd get those tests for starters. Best of luck!
Greetings Sweetnightmare! Welcome to the Heart disorder healthboards! This is not a promise of cure but some of these things I like to do may be a help to health. Of course everyone must make their own health care decisions in life. I think I might be requesting an angiogram from a heart specialist if desired. On occasion a 5 star specialist finds something because he is educated in the specialty area more deeply. Of course x-ray radiation may cause cancer so of course this decision must be weighed against the risk of heart attack. The x-rays may show the heart better and aorta vessel better is a dye is used. Of course if a person is allergic to iodine then this could not be done with that particular dye. If diet and a daily brisk walk after meals and an hour a day are followed well the heart may clear of fatty deposits in 3 years. I would take the walk at the same time each day and do the meals and sleep schedule at the same time each day. However if the heart is almost blocked a surgery might save a life. I probably don't have to say that I would eat less, smoke none, eat no meat, eat food with no additives, drink no coffee, or alcohol since it seems there is already an awareness of a possiblity of an effect on health. I would also avoid spices and vinegar.
I would drink plenty of water since dehydrated blood is a bit like powder (of course the heart would have difficulty pumping that) and of course this does not happen in a live human the blood becomes thick and clumps and leaves danger of heart attack from a clot.
I would find friends to chat with and to help anxiety since the mind would be drawn toward the conversation and ones troubles are more likely to be forgotten. I would also avoid sugar since sugar can cause fear, anxiety and fat is broken down by the body into sugar so I would use less of that also. Meat also usually has a fairly high amount of fat and may contain the cancerous tumours or malignant substances in it. It may be helpful to know that death is like a sleep and sleep is peaceful so don't be scared. If in fact people have nightmares in sleep it is because they eat late at night with a stomach full of food. The stomach should have a few hours rest before sleeping. The last meal of the day should be a peice of bread without butter or hard to digest items and a peice of fruit. Applesauce on the bread could be used but the bread always needs to be thoroughly chewed.
Sunshine may help with depression but maybe is better obtained before 10 a.m. or after 2 p.m. I would get as much as possible even in winter except when the weather is bad. I would use boots to prevent slipping and try to avoid icy spots.
Have you seen a cardiologidst lately. You should to get test done to check out your heart since there is a family history there of stroke and heart disease. The fast food and caffine does a number on the arteries and heart rates. And you are never too young to have heart problems at 28. I born with defective aortic valve and had aortic valve replacement at age 36. Just go to a cardio and get tests done to check everything out. Cut out the fast food and caffine. Hugs for today.
