Unhappy what should i do???

I just found out my husband has Hep C. He did not want to tell me because he felt I had enought to worry about. I am going to get tested myself today hopefully but I have been sworn to secrecy. He isn't taking anything but he does drink milk thistle. I know I need to talk to him but it would end his relationship with his Mom. Any suggestions???

Re: what should i do???

I do understand what you are going through. My brother has HepC. Our family is divided over it. SOme of us are supporting. I am. SOme are against it. They treat him like he can give it to them by being in the same room. And they like to "mention" it alot at family gatherings. I ended up printing off info about it from the internet and gave them all a copy of it to read. It did help a little bit with some. One even became supportive. Hope this helps, Tina

Re: what should i do???

Parents are parents and some are worse than others. I have the inlaws from hell. MY husband is pos and we thought I was neg. Now I am preg and found out I am actually positive. We just decided screw it and told them. They will deal with it eventually. Some people I know decided it is best to not tell anyone although through treatments it is good to try to have family support.

I might suggest that you have some educational information to give them when you tell them about the infection.

Re: what should i do???

I have HCV and very good parents They sure would be supportive, but I have decided not to tell them anything. It would be just a stress for them. They live next to me (own flat, but near) and I went through two tx and they have not noticed. Now I am preparing for the third one - daily Infergen. It will be hard, bu I hope I vwill manage it.

Re: what should i do???

I have just in the last 2 weeks been diagnosed woth Hep C. My husband was tested in the past week and he does NOT have it. We have no idea how I contracted it , am not an IV drug user and am VERY faithfull in our marriage.......we r very scared and in limbo at the moment as I cannot see the specialist to start treatment and get answers until Febuary. That sucks but is the way our health system works in B>C>

Re: what should i do???

I guess i am lucky my mother has been a nurse for over 30 years and never even batted an eye about it my daughter is just 12 but when i explained to her the rules of the house as far as razors and what have you and why this had to be she has been my side kick thru it all. My boyfriend immediately did a complete research on the disease so he could be prepaired to help me thru it. The only one i was worried about was my dad but since he lives in another state it means little to him cause he does not have to deal with it.

But like the rest have said education is the key here if you are worried about telling yourt families then print out some material for them to read about the risk factors involved in contracting it from you that alone will help them understand alot better.

Good luck

Re: what should i do???

I have it....I think I have had it for about 30 years but only recently found out by accident.

I have no symptoms for the most part....My regular doctor was surprised as my liver levels all are normal.

I haven't told anyone and don't intend to. I am single and will tell a sexual partner but that's it.

I have an ex-wife with a big mouth that I will never tell as she would tell everyone in th world. (I am trying to think of a way to get her to be tested without telling her....Like get her to give blood or something).....and all my kids relatives on her side would treat my kids like lepars.

I am going to see if I can have the kids tested at thier next physical and unless they are positive I will keep it to myself.

What's wierd to me is that I have had it so long...never new....feel fine.....found it by accident.....and now what, just because I find this out I am suppose to change my whole life? or should I start planning my funeral.....confess to everyone so they can shun me or act like I have aids...have people at work think I am a lepar? I don't think so!!!

At home I simply hide my shaver, my toothbrush and I am careful with my kids.

What's really sad are the treatments and research....Not enough in my opinion.
I am just lucky that my health is good and other than knowing now It has not impacted my life........Although I don't drink anymore (which I could care less)

So I say with the way people react to these kinds of things.....you need to be very carefull who you tell.

Re: what should i do???

I got a good LOL from got2fight saying his mother would tell everyone in the western hemisphere My parents mean well but have no control over talking about what is unusual (to whoever will listen) They want to be supportive, but I feel like "gossip mongers" might cause as much harm as good.
