Question about hep C

This is complicated,Im a GS(gestational surrogate)and a couple with hep C has been brought to my attention.Ive found that the Dr I ask this dont really even know so I thought you all might have some clue.Is there a change of transmitting it from the embrio to me?The mom is positive for it and the dad is negitive. They would use thir own egg and sperm. Also what is the change that the baby will have it?

The best we know at present is that it is the exchange of blood during the birth process that transmits the virus, when it is transmitted, which is thought to be around 5-8% of the time.

So much of the current knowledge does not apply to your situation and, to the best of my knowledge anyway, there has been NO scientific research on this.

Sexual transmission, when it occurrs, has to do with the viral load of the male and the fact that the sperm is injected into the female body and up into the fallopian tubes where it is absorbed into the body of the female. Since you would not be involved with excess semen (the product of conception would already have integrated sperm and ova) that leaves (at least) the remote possibility that IF the fetus were infected you MAY have some risk.

Donor artificial insemination is not accepted from HCV positive people, just so you know.

I doubt that anyone could answer your concerns with authority. Assume that there is some risk since that is the safest course.

thanbey
