He has been complaining to his x girlfriend about the following problems, constpation, having to pee all the time, flu like syptoms, discolor of stool. Does it sound like his liver is failing?
How long can someone live with hep.c if they do not get clean. What are the symptoms that will show he needs a liver?

None of us know how long we will last so who can say what how long he would live if he cleaned up and started taking care of himself. A lot longer than if he doesn't!
He needs to see a doctor to determine his medical status.
He must be sober for 6 months to a year before any transplant center would accept him on its waiting list if he needed a liver transplant. No smoking, either. Rehab is probably is in the cards for him (and the sooner, the better) if he decides he wants to live.
