Talking Biopsy done

Hi Yall! I finally got my biopsy done yesterday. I had to spend the night in the VA hospital, because I live more than 50 miles away. The Dr used a local anesthesia and I didn't feel a thing, he even showed me my liver sample (I was told after the procedure that I had the A-Team) The only problem I had was about 15 hours later at 1:30am when I got indigestion (really bad) I'd eaten supper about 7 1/2 hours earlier (I was starving and I was thinking the next time I have a biopsy, I'll sneak some food in) anyway the Dr was called twice and came in to check on me at 3am, by then I'd already taken an antacid and my stomach had already settled. I was skeptical about the VA treating me, but not anymore. I'd like to salute this Dr for caring enough to go out in the cold and foggy morning to check on me...I guess the moral of this story is if you get a biopsy stay on liquids, no matter how hungry you get...believe me, I thought I was having a heart attack, even though, I knew it was indigestion, it hurt that bad...Thanks...

Hi Rayralph, I think if they just give you a local, you should be alright to take a test. I know for at least 6 hours you have to stay on bed rest (maybe longer) This is to make sure there's no more bleeding...Now the A-Team was just a phrase from an old TV show. I guess your young and never heard of this show, but they're on TV Land (I think) The Dr and Nurse (mostly Dr) are experts at doing biopsy procedures...I hope this helps...Good luck on both biopsy and exam...

Ralph-
when I went for my biopcy,I was given nothing, no local nothing, the specilist doing the biopcy said that they want people to Not have the local or pain meds as they want to know right away if there is somthing wrong.

I am not tryng to scare you here, but its a big, large intimidating needle, the good news is that it is litteraly shot into you in a split second, therefore most do not feel a thing.

I was one in tens of thousands that things did not go good for, all my internal organs seemed to have constricted into a spasam, it took three attempts to get the sample, I was in so much pain after the second shot I could not even speak to say QUIT, but had I quit I would just had to do it all over again in a couple of weeks.

If or I should say when I go in again for an biopcy,
I WILL ask for a local and a seditive with a pain killer on stand by, it is my opinion that the local would be a good thing, [as with the seditive haha].

The odds are in your favor for an complete painless easy biopcy, most I know that had a biopcy done said it was over before they thought it was going to start, they make you lay on your biopcy side for several hours, so you will have to write that test, ha ha.
Somtimes you hear stuff that make it seem frightning, but it is really not a bad thing to go though, and it is a very important tool to see what stage your at and/or if you might decide for treatment.

Here is hoping that it will be a "tip toe though the tulips" for you, be well.

Glad it went good for you and you found a good doc, I never heard about the indigestion problem before, but good advice on doing what they tell you to do before you have an biopcy, and glad all is well.
