Application of UBI for viruses - Hepatitis Message Board

Hi all,

I'm new to this BB thing so bare with me. I have a friend with endstage HepC and find myself searching the web for any ray of hope to stop the virus which has taken her third liver and now she is also in kidney failure after the second transplant. I recently read some things on Ultraviolet therapy of the blood to stop bacteria and viruses. It is an FDA approved therapy but is not in use except with alternative health practitioners. So far I have found only one article on the subject. If anyone has looked into this please let me know your findings.

I'm sorry to tell you this is not a therapy that works for hepatitis C. I am so sorry to tell you that this is false hope.

It is used in water treatment very successfully, but will destroy the blood cells along with anything else it may do.

Thank you for your response. You must have some evidence to support your oppinion and I would feel so much better if I could see this thru and look at the data myself. Please forward any known paper titles you have on research done after this article which was written in the early 90's. Did they also find it ineffective on HIV? because the article states some pretty impressive data saying it works.

Secondly, don't they already have ways to separate blood components that would stop some of the damage you speak of?

On the contrary, there is no evidence at all that this is safe and effective.

I understand the desperation to find something, anything, that might help. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can stop the progression after two transplants and kidney failure when interferon has not been successful.

Even I realize there is little to no hope for my friend at this time, her disease is too advanced. But I want to follow through on this line of thinking to see what research has been done since this time and see if maybe it isn't just collecting dust somewhere. After all, doctors said chiroprators were quacks just how long ago, ten years? And now they are covered by HMO's!!!

Did you read the article I posted? I would appreciate your professional twist on the data, or stear me toward some more research data. Do you know a web site that a lay person can access on such matters. I will gladly post any contradictory findings, I don't want to give false hope either.
