Post Peg-Intron/Riba Shot #3---Day 2

Alrighty....for those of you following:

Gave Hubby shot #3 on Friday night around 7pm. He decided on the leg. Had a tough time finding some fight on the upper thigh but we managed. This time getting the bubbles out were difficult. Someone on another board mentioned his new perscription comes with less dilutant---hmmmm?

Hubby flinched and said yes, it hurt a little but more so because he could see what I was doing. No redness as of today-Sunday. Guess the leg is an OK spot after all. By the way: we did try the stomach--no fat and hubby was just flat out against it.

He has very mild fever in the evening, not enough to even take tylenol. He had a slight headache by 10pm and his head was itchy almost right away.

Yesterday and today he's working like a madman. Methinks he's trying to take his mind off of it. Yesterday day#2---he had a slight headache, muscle aches, itchy head and very tired. Played a little baseball before son's game and paid for it later---said his arm was more sore than it should have been for that little bit of playing. Sat for 3 hours watching the game and lunch. He got so bored he GROUTED THE TILE!!!! I just sat stunned and watched. All the bending and he was pooped out by 8pm. He just kind of grouted, rested, drank watet, grouted, rested....etc.,

Today he cleaned up his grout mess, mowed what little lawn we have (we have a pool) and trimmed the front hedge. He said the headache is slight today, head is itchy and driving him crazy. He's only rested here and there today much less than yesterday. Now he's talking "going to the batting cages" with son later...what a mad man, but Hey, who am I to stop him----if this is what keeps him from "thinking" about it then go ahead.

Someone on another board asked me what's the secret. Well, I don't know it's a "secret" but all we've been doing is:

#1-drinking at least 1 gallon of water per day

#2-a medium banana 5 days per week, plus a muffin for breakfast(since I don't get up with him) before taking his Rebetrol pills

#3-an extra serving of vegetable per day (I serve a fruit and vegetable at evening meal everyday for the last 15 years--we've added one)

#4-always eat a big meal before shot and before pills

#5-using baby shampoo

#6-2 reg. Tylenol 1 hour before shot time

Other than that no other changes to diet or routine. No extra vitimans as of yet. I just hope and pray it will continue to be this way for the next 21 weeks!

DD

i used to feel more energized during "shot day". I think i was really planning ahead to feel so bad later that i wanted to be assured all was done before the "hard time" set in.

It's a good thing that your husband it taking control of his reaction to treatment as he is! most probably, down the road, he will understand that he can manage his treatment and not be so concerned to get everything accomplished in such a hurry.

of course there will be days when he might feel low and need to take it easy, as most people do (even perfectly healthy people do)

i think your husband is reacting quite normal to his situation and so far is doing very well! it always helps to have a supportive significant other as yourself!

your positive outlook and understanding and willingness to work together may well just make your journey through this easier than it could be.

You are a real Godsend for your husband and I wish you both the best!

The two of you are also a very good example of how people working together can make life in general so much better!

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us all and I hope you continue to do well!

Wes

Hi, D.D.

I do so much enjoy your entries and keeping us posted. I agree with Wes1212 ... you both are a perfect example of what a marriage is all about! You are probably the BEST medicine of all, and I think you both are going to do okay through all this.

Thank God so far all has been going fairly smoothly. It's nice to read ....

Keep your spirits and attitude HIGH!

Diane
