Question New Treatment???

Hi All - Has anyone heard of a new treatment called Multiferon? The biochemical co., Viragen of Sweden is the maker. Apparently, it is only approved for use for Hepatitis in Sweden and for cancer in some other countries, including Mexico and Egypt. It is made from white blood cells and closely resembles the body's natural interferon, thus reducing any side effects. I'm sure if it is any good, it will take a long while to see it in this country; but it does give one hope and shows that the research does go on!

Love & Blessings, Karolyn

Hi Kackles, I think I read the same information you did. It seems promising, but still has a long road ahead most likely. I like the idea that it is based on naturally produced substances in the body. This could be of great help in our fight of HCV. I watched a documentary the other day on the Aids virus and the Black plague Bacteria. They both seem to work in the same way to each other against the bodies Antibodies. It was a gay male who had repeatedly been exposed to HIV and never caught it that took these researchers done this path. Of course HCV attacks the liver, so it is different in that aspect. They are the same from what I could find, in that HCV also, just gets under the top layer of the cell. This keeps the cell looking normal to the body, allowing the HCV to multiple until the cell is destoyed and the virus disperses. They traced the decendants of people who survived the Black Plague and found as with people who dont' get Aids, they all have a mutated gene in their DNA. This has changed the Antibody cells to have a harder surface which keeps the virus out. I think this must be the inhibitor approach to treatments of infections. It gives the body a chance to clear infections on its own without playing hide and seek. From what I have read there is no cure for a virus yet, but there is for Bacteria. This is what worries me with current treatments for HCV, in that the immune system collapses. I am a 3e genotype which is common in Scotland and England which is said to be clearable between 50-60% with Tx. Lesser odds then I was first led to believe. The current vaccines for virus usually are based on a lesser form of a similar virus which builds up immunity. I just thought I would share my current understanding of what I have learned.

Thumbs up

Hi is this Real, nice information. I hope it is not mis-taken as adverting. That can get a person removed from the board. I just read the letter sent to us at the top of the page for HepC that touches on that. The information you gave does enlighten on the subject for us. I ran a search for "Pegasys treatment 2003" the other day and the search gave up a DRUG STORE that had information listed. It gives prices, recommandations and sides. Thought it was interesting.

I also found out that it is in phase III trials right now, which means what? How many phases are there? Also, it is only being used as a secondary strategy for people with resistant genotype or those who don't respond to treatment. However, if it turns out to be so good, I can't imagine that they wouldn't start using it first.

Love, Karolyn

From what I have read, 3 first phase trials Clinical phase trial 1,2,3. From there I believe, it is a 2 part Phase 4 trial and if it passes and approved, offered to the public. The Drug pipeline for HCV is what I look for to read on progress. I dont think it is up-dated that fast, so you have to look for news reports like "Is this Real" did. When they first come out, you hear alot about them. Some fail by the end of phase 2, but dont' get much press because it is money to corporations. Some are bought by other companies, but thats how research and development goes to make profits. Some Generic Tx are trying to get on the market now to bring done prices, but they have met resistance.
