Post Really weird side (?)

Here's a good one.....

Hubby worked all day yesterday, claimed he didn't twist his ankle in any way, actually had a mild day of walking.

He met me at my sons game. Told me his ankle was hurting. The bleachers are concrete and about 5 solid steps. He did go up and down them a few times as his sister, his mom and my dad came during the game so he got up to greet them . We were all going out for my birthday. When the game was done we had to walk about the length of a football field to the car, he said he can barely walk without it hurting.

We got to the restaurant and he HAD to sit down. They insisted we wait and he finally said NO, I have to sit down and he looked pale...well, I'm a b-i-t-c-h when it comes to my husband or kids being sick...so I told the manager "NO, he needs to sit down now where do you want him to sit NOW!!!" See ya'all thought I was sweet, huh?

He limped trying to get his food (his Mom chose a buffet restaurant, duh-ha), I finally helped him. He ate a little bit then said he's been feverish since the end of the game. He had on undershirt, shirt and jacket. He kept taking it on, off, on off. His ankle kept getting worse........UNBELIEVABLE--he actually asked me for some Advil!!!!!!!!

I knew he was hurting for 2 reasons...1, he asked me for Advil and TOOK it...and 2 not only was it my birthday but it's also our anniversary. He's usually really good about it. He finally said "I have to go home, really I do" He's SUCH a stubborn cuss and insisted he drive his own car home (we had 6 cars there)...everyone jumped up to offer him a ride home but he insisted so his brother followed him home.

When I got home 1 hour later he was in the bathroom(which is raised one step) and couldn't get out. Said his ankle hurt so bad he couldn't stand up to pee. He couldn't stand on it at all. I helped him to the bed and asked how did he get in there? He said he crawled and kind of laughed. I thought he was joking.

He took 2 more Advil and he sweated off and on all night. Said he had body aches too. About 2am in the morning I woke up, looked at the foot of the bed and...are ya ready for this...

HE'S CRAWLING ON HIS HANDS AND KNEES TO THE BATHROOM!!!

I could NOT believe it. He didn't want to wake me to help him. He said don't get up and crawled all the way back. He soaked 3 shirts but didn't want any sweatpants.

This morning he said it was sore but could walk on it, insisted on going to work (the idiot) and the fever was gone. The only thing we can think of is: years ago, in his teens---he was in a bad motorcycle accident and crushed that ankle. They said he'd never walked and he was stubborn enough to prove them wrong. It hurt for years but hasn't flared up in over 10-15 years, why now?

So.....what do you all make of that??????????????? He kept saying "is this a side, what the (don't want to tell you what he said)?"
Told him I would consult the Treament Experts in the morning. Another one to add on for the doc question sheet.

Susan

It is a known fact that interferon can "soften" bones and can cause osteoporosis. I am guessing that the interferon has struck in an area of vulnerability and may be causing the pain.

Your husband should insist on an assessment of this ankle by an osteo (bone) specialist. It would be a terrible thing to lose the ankle after all that effort and time.

Sounds like gout to me. Its extremely painful and if he has a joint injury to that ankle the riba/intf might be aggravating it.

My husband has gout and like yours, won't do anything unless he is in extreme pain and that's how I know its the gout acting up. Don't let anybody tell you its only in the toe. My hubby gets it in knees, ankles, toes and wrist (ex football player). Its so painful he ends up on crutches during a major attack but it comes on like you described, a soreness at first, then horrific pain where he can't walk...period. It got so bad he did go to the doc and even a specialist and was put on anti inflams and allpurinal and indocine.

Have the doctor check his uric acid levels. These are elevated during an attack. Just a thought..........

I've studied gout as much as the HCV Nothing like a cranky man!!!

Take Care
Jeannie

sorry to hear about the ankle.I just finished treatment.I broke my left hand about 25 years ago.never bothered me until treatment.I could always tell I was in for a rough week when my hand started to hurt.Since I finished treatment it hasn't bothered me.I think the tx inflames old injuries,at least in my case.
