Hi Hamboney69,
I'm another newbie to this site and to the HCV diagnosis, and like you, I've probably had it for 20+ years unknowingly. Sounds like we are in a very similar boat, but my ex was lucky and escaped it.
Let us know the results of your tests so we can compare notes and go through this thing together to some extent. It's a lot to learn, and if you look at one of my other postings about some of the sites I found recently (see the 24-hour response posting), the info there might be useful to you too. The webcast I found from UC Davis for primary doctors was in pretty simple laymans terms and explained a lot.
Good luck with your tests. Don't be too worried if they call for a biopsy - they really put the fear in me beforehand (and I know we need to be prepared), but it REALLY wasn't as bad as all that. Not much discomfort at all for me anyway and it healed quickly.
Anyway, both glad and sorry we are all here going through this. As you may have seen, I am having problems giving up my partying lifestyle but it's getting easier everyday, and maybe it was a good thing to do anyway! My friends really like the fact that I am always available as designated driver!
The only problem is every time I think, ok, well I can do "x" (like drink NA beer instead of alcohol, or coffee instead of NA beer, or smoke pot instead of drinking anything)someone shoots it down and points to my liver as being the poor recipient of all bad things that I consider enjoyable)! Won't they give us a break?!! Now, if they tell me sex is bad for my liver, I am really going to take exception!!
Good luck and hang in there. We'll get through this!
