Question geno 2b and extended TX

Thanbey

I hearing some GI's are deciding to extend geno 2b TX out to 48 weeks?? There seems to be alot of controvery on the TX time table. Have you heard anything new on this. My Gastro has me scheduled for 24 weeks. The extended TX is supposed to help the liver
in its healing process.

Is this because you have borderline cirrhosis?

The studies indicate that a longer course of treatment does nothing to improve the chances of SVR. (see The problem with Viral Load-- another thread)However, the main benefit for extension would be the possibility of improved liver histology on biopsy.

Would the doctor then do another biopsy to check to see whether there had been benefit?

I have known of one person who had histological improvement on ribavirin alone post transplant, but no SVR, of course.

These are all in the line of experimentation at this point.

Thanbey,
Thank you for you input. It was for the liver histology that I cared about not the SVR. And of course the sides and how bad they may be by that time. Tonight will be #2 we will see how this goes I expect that Saturday night is when it will hit me again. As long as it only lasts one night for the rest of TX I will be happy. Thank you again you are always down to earth and honest and I respect that. God bless us all in this fight.

Question

Thanbey,
Genotype 2/3 relapes is what I have been reading about. And there seems to be some questions on haveing multiple Geno's a relapsed type 2 can clear for two and then have type 1?? What do you know about this please. Is there a test that can detect multiple geno infections?

its not hard to figure out. kind of like if a fire starts to burn again after the fire department leaves. It hurts my head to try to understand what happened --what-went-wrong? Remember that I'm by no means a fireman and can only have a laypersons opinion. I figure that they didn't put it all the way out.

so when a person relapses after treatment is stopped what is the problem? hmmmmm....

it is interesting to hear that interferon does not cross the blood brain barrier, but the virus might.

i wonder what the mechanism is for interferon causing neuropsychiatric malfunctions and other neurological disorders. hormonal? electrolyte (sodium, potassium) imbalances due to the high water intake?

lots of questions.
