Yes, it can be confusing for everyone. So much information floating around that isn't necessarily good information. I have, obviousley, been guilty of this myself.
The business about drinking water and fluids is not inaccurate. It is important to stay hydrated during treatment. But, and this is a big but, the needs of people differ depending on their size, dietary habits and other factors. An active male, for example, should drink more water than a small female. It serves also to deplete any extra iron in the body that males tend to accumulate. But too much can make your sytem go haywire.
A gallon a day is a stress on your urinary system and can deplete some very important metabolites in your body. This is not a general recommendation that should be followed. There is water in your food, too, that is used by your body as fluids. They count.
