Can hep c be transmitted by open mouth kissing and other casual contact

I'm about to start treatment and a new relationship at the same time and I do not want to put her at risk. If you have experience in this area I need your help. Also I would like to know what to expect from the pegasys treatment. God bless.

Not likely. Hep c is blood to blood contact. I've been married to my husband for over 20 yrs and I am still testing negative for hep c. As for what to expect from the treatments it's really different for everyone. You may get a little irritable, and some headaches, and itching. Just remember(and I can't stress enough) to drink lots of water. My husbands doctor said it seems to lessen the side effects. Good Luck.

Re: Can hep c be transmitted by open mouth kissing and other casual contact

Any transfer of blood, even in tiny amounts, which could occur during open-mouth kissing, could transmit the virus. That said, I would refrain from kissing following teeth-brushing and flossing, but the risk would be small at other times. Do you have gum disease? If so, the risk is higher. I wish the risk were zero with open-mouth kissing, but it is *low* and perhaps she won't be worried about the risk, if you're honest with her.
The risk is zero with close-mouthed kissing.
Don't share ANY personal-care items including: toothbrush, toothpaste tube, nail clippers, razors...

Re: Can hep c be transmitted by open mouth kissing and other casual contact

they barely even recommend married couples with normal sexual practices to practice safe sex when one is hep c and the other is not after twenty years. This will raise a lot of furry but for real...ask you doctor. Blood to blood. The obvious...don't mess around with her/him on your period...don't share a needle...don't use each other's tooth brushes, don't rub an open wound together, ummm you are fine.
