Husband has Hep C - Can we still conceive?

My husband has Hep C and I do not. He is not actively on a treatment but is being monitored by his doctor.

I have been tested yearly and have had negative results. We have tried to conceive for the last year or so and have not conceived. Can the Hep C be the reason and if so is it possible if we go through fertility testing that we still may have success in conceiving?

Re: Husband has Hep C - Can we still conceive?

Hi heather,

jeez, fertility is one of the onlymedical areas with as much uncertainty and individual variation as hep!

However, I've never heard that the virus interferes with either a man's or woman's fertility. I can't claim to have huge knowledge on this, I've just never seen any of the experts or researchers report finding this as an issue in this disease. Seems it would have come up in ne of the studies or other.

Of course fertility testing will help you figure out what your odds of success are, but I don't think it willturn out to have much to do with the hep.

Hope this helps.

Heather, check with your husbands doctor asap!! There are warnings concerning conception during treatment even for the men. I was told not to conceive during treatment and up to six months afterwards because the interferon is so strong. This goes for male and female so double check before proceeding.
