hi bluecloud and welcome <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif">
you are not stupid by any means. you just need to learn about the virus as we all do. here you will find alot of friendly, knowledgeable people.you are not alone that's for sure.when first finding out , it's a shock, then after awhile it becomes a reality. that's when you start to educate yourself.there are alot of things to not do like sharing razors, anything that could transport blood to blood contact.my hubby is negative, and i have had this since82.how many times has he been to the dr.?has he seen a liv. specialist yet? this he will have to do to find out where about his virus is and how his liver is. if he drinks he must stop.alcohol and hep is like adding fuel to fire.i hope that this helps you somewhat. i'm sure you will get alot of replies.
keep the faith,bless you.............mj.

Re: boyfriend has hep c need advice

Hi BlueCloud,

I'm a newbie too. Read my post under NEW HERE-HUSBAND HAS HEPC.

Don't feel stupid. Here's how I look at it: I'm not stupid, stupid means you have no common sense.

Shoot....you show great common sense by just asking for advice and trying to gain knowlege for yourself and your BF. You're not stupid and I don't believe that any questions asked are stupid.

I do believe that I am ignorant. Ignorant means you have little or no knowledge of something. I'm trying to educate myself and become "un-ignorant" about HCV. If I decided to stick my head in the sand, it's my own fault to remain ignorant. I believe that's what we've been doing up until June.

I don't believe that anyone on this board will think you are stupid for asking questions no matter how big or how small.

With the little bit of knowledge I've learned, I love to share it with people especially ours friends that are supporting us in all this.

I think the #1 information I've learned in all this is...don't drink and don't smoke. If you do, quit immediately. By drinking and smoking your are taking years off your life (you do anyway without HepC) and it can be prevented.

I think my husbands doctor must have mentioned it 6 times in the 30 min. we were there. His lasts words were (as he put his hand on my husbands arem) "Please don't drink, Please don't drink" Gosh, I thought the man was going to get on his knees and beg!

Looking forward to your posts and being a newbie I'm interested in the answers you receive.

Take Care of you and your BF
Sue

Re: boyfriend has hep c need advice

Hi BC!

You're not thick girl! I'm glad you care enough to ask questions.

First off, there is a very minimal chance that Hep C can be transmitted sexually. They've never proved it nor discounted it. It is definetly transmitted through blood. Askerjohn gave you some great advice.

Be sure that he (your hubby too Sue) get vaccinated for Hep A and Hep B. Its also a good idea to take the flu shot now that they are available.

Thank you for researching and your attitude to hang in there with your man is commendable! The more people know about the disease the better off we will all be. Knowledge is power!

Take care,
Jeannie

Re: boyfriend has hep c need advice

Hi Jeannie,

Here I go stepping in with both feet again....

How come the doctors didn't recommend he get those shots? When he had his physical in June the doc said "Wow, you have HepA too, have you been sick lately, like the flu" Nope. He didn't mention a shot then. The specialist didn't mention the shot either.

To enter Junior High now, you HAVE to have a HEP B shot..my daughter kicked and screamed but she got it!

Thanks,
Sue

Re: boyfriend has hep c need advice

Hi again Blue Cloud,

Here's a thought....

If HCV is transmitted sexually then I must be immune because hubby and I have been married for 19 years and together for 22----and I've always just used the pill, no condoms.

I've been checked twice (once when he first got it and about 3 years ago) for HEP and never have come down with it---coincidence or is it NOT sexually transmitted. I think the condition would have to be Juuust right in order to get it that way.

I'm not that knowledgable about it being sexually transmitted so if anyone else has some insight on it, please fill us in.

Sue

Re: boyfriend has hep c need advice

Good advice Fresh!

Good morning Sue,

Your husband will be immune to Hep A since he's had it and has the antibodies.

My doctor didn't tell me to get the vaccines either. I learned about it in here. Heck, I didn't even know they had one for Hep A.

Have your husband get the 3 series B shots. I recommend your local health department because their serum is fresh. I have had the B shots twice (2 rounds) because the first series was at a doctors office and the serum was weakend due to age. The health dept does these shots all the time so their stuff has the right potency.

I still am not immune to B or A. For some reason my body just doesn't make enough antibodies. Go figure. But that is rare and the vaccines work for a majority of people.

Its Friday and life is good!!
Jeannie

Re: boyfriend has hep c need advice

Dear Blue Cloud,
I know exactly how you feel... its hard to get your information straight, when there is so much out there. My husband has Hep C and it has been quite an education. Make sure your boyfriend sees a specialist, has a liver biopsy...etc. It seems scary, but my husband's went along without a hitch. Good luck and don't lose hope. There is alot of support and information available.
