Am I still contagious?

Hi guys,

Nice site, hope to find some help here.

I am a 26 yo gay male, when I was 11 months old I was injected by an ignorant medical worker with a non-sterile syringe (that was in Asia, in the times of USSR), so I got HBV. I think i had acute infection as HBsAg was not found after 6 months and I remember sticking to diets up to age 6. I was never checked since then and I was sure my virus just disappeared and I'm not contagious. Last year I did several tests and HBsAg was not detected. In Dec 2011 I had sex with my 36yo partner, we used condoms but he had a contact with my semen (oral sex was unprotected), so we both stressed and I decided to do another test, the results were:

Hep BsAg - Non reactive
Hep BsAb - 747 IU/L
Hep BcAb Total - Reactive

So i was told by a clinic person I'm non infectious and my virus cleared, but a week ago i asked my GP and he said the people at that clinic were wrong and sent me for a DNA Viral load test, so I'm stressing again as I'm afraid I infected my partner and the result is gonna be ready in around 2 weeks, I can't sleep and do things properly because of that terrible waiting.... can I really be still contagious?

Re: Am I still contagious?

This will be interesting. Will you believe a doctor...or a nurse?

Hep BsAg - Hepatitis B surface Antigen ....It's the protein that is present on the surface of the virus; will be present in the blood with acute and chronic infections.

Yours is Non-reactive so that means you're not infected.

Hep BsAb - Hepatitis B surface Antibody of 747 IU/L means you have good pretection against Hepatitis B.

Hep BcAb Total - Hepatitis B core Antibody Reactive, means that you also have antibodies against the core. Antibodies are good, they protect you against the infection.

No need to stress. You cannot infect anybody when you're not infected.

I hope you'll let your doctor know how much distress this caused you.

GsS
