Please help!! Please

Yes - an urgent plea...

My daughter is in a county jail and is sick. She has had a fever for 4 weeks, and really ill. She is 32 and a recovering addict - relapsed for 2 months and violated her probation. She was diagnosed 3 yrs ago with Hep c & b

Anyway - like I said she is sick and the jail could care less. 2 weeks ago, she had excruciating abdominal pain in her upper right side, around her bad and between her shoulder blades. It hurts when she takes a deep breath. Sounds like Gallbladder to me, but they were saying she had kidney stones - 2 weeks later they finally do a test on her and an x-ray and say it is her gallbladder.. and they finally took her to a hospital 2 days ago.

At the hospital, they do a CT scan and a ultrasound and say her gallbladder is fine, and so is her kidney - no stones!

They tell her her liver is swollen, and surrounded by fluid and blood - asked if she was injured in her side - she said no.
They tell her there is nothing they can do at the hospital, that she doesn't need to be admitted - and they return her to jail and even kick her out of the medical unit.

I love her, she is my daughter and made some big mistakes in her life, but I don't want to bury her. She is afraid of dying in jail and I'm afraid she could too. She is in there for 3 more months... they refuse to give her medication that the ER doctor said she needed.

I'm really concerned about the 4 weeks of fever, the continued pain... and - well, everything. Can ANYONE reassure me this is normal?

Also - the ER doctor said she does not yet have Cirrhosis

I can't believe people are viewing - but not one response? Please - I have tried to ask doctors they won't reply without seeing her - anyone with this experience or similar?

Re: Please help!! Please

Im sorry, I dont have good answers for you, but its a shame that the jail is acting like that-- and I cant believe they wont give her the medicine that she needs...when she goes to the ER again you need to demand a liver specialist. Also can you request that she goes to a diffrent hospital next time?
I hope everything is ok--I'll be praying for you to get the answers you need, and the medical care that your daughter deserves.

Re: Please help!! Please

I went through similar issue with my brother in law he had end stage liver disease. If she is a county jail, contact the local sheriff, and ask to speak with the jail nurse. If it is a state facility look up the DOC and contact that medical manager.

You may have to push hard, but they are required by law to ensure that she has appropriate medical care for her diagnosed condition.

You have to be the squeaky wheel for her.
