Has anyone had A TT because of a hernia? My doctor has scheduled me for a second hernia operation in May. The first did not last due to weak muscles. He said I need a TT in order for the hernia repair to be effective. I was referred to a PS. He told me I was about 30 lbs over the ideal weight for the surgery. I now am working on losing the weight. In the mean time the 'incisional'hernia keeps popping out. (very annoying). Also how long is the hospital stay? I understand I will have a couple of drains in place for a few days, and then a special 'garment' afterwords. I was told the operation is painful and I would not be able to stand stright for a short while. Also recovery requied that I lay with my legs elivated. This all sounds a little scary. I've had two C sections, a hysterectomy and a bladder repair. So I understand what pain is. It it as painful as any of these?
Your hernia surgeon's reply doesn't make sense to me! Why wouldn't weight loss alone take adequate pressure off your abdominal wall and allow for a successful hernia repair? Is this surgeon trying to pass the buck for a less than optimal repair? Whether you get a tummy tuck after losing weight seems like it should be a separate issue.
