herniated and bulging disc can get better

with age I was told. I have a broad based protrusion and a bulging disc in my neck and I was told they can get better with age due to water loss over the years in the disc. I have a stiff and achy neck - am in pt now. I was also told that with good posture the disc can go back in where they are suppose to be. I presently have no nerve impingement that I'm noticing. I'm 51- is it possible for this to get better on its own over time? Can a chiro help with this problem. I have MS and have fallen 3 times in the past year, which may of caused these probs. From now on I am going to do whatever I can not to fall- I am really paying close attention to my walking now. I want to do whatever I can to avoid sx. Thanks.

Re: herniated and bulging disc can get better

I've read a few journal articles about spontaneous resolution of herniated cerivcal discs - the mechanism isn't understood but there are some documented cases with MRI evidence (MRI's before and then a couple of years later when the herniation had dissappeared). In one of them after a time the disc at one level dissappeared but another one at a different level was herniated that wasn't in the earlier scan, in another case one just dissappeared altogether over a two year period. Not sure the ages - one was in his 40's, and I think another one was an older lady, and one younger man.
