Whose advice do I take involving this misdiagnosed hernia?

I went roughly a month ago to check out some pain I had in the groin area. The doctor checked it and did the whole turn your head and cough test and came to the conclusion that I had a inguernal hernia. I work out at the gym but it wasn't until after I didn't work out for a week and went on vaction did I feel the discomfort. That's where it starts to look peculiar. Anyway, I had this discomfort and nagging pain for about 2 weeks or so. Then the pain seemed to go away but I could still feel pressure down in that area, so I knew something was still present.

The doctor referred me to a specialist, a surgeon, and today i went to see him. He checked and felt around, did the cough test, etc. and came to the conclusion that it wasn't a hernia but a muscle strain. He said he didn't want to do surgery and find that i didn't need it, and to go back to living my life how I would (working out and stuff) before the pain and just take it easier than usual and let him know if it gets worrse. if not he scheduled a follow up for June. It feels like something is there but it is not bulging hernias many times do, but who should I trust with this?

Re: Whose advice do I take involving this misdiagnosed hernia?

Well a surgeon IS who I got the second opinion from and he was the one that said he didn't believe it was a hernia. My GP is the one that referred me to this surgeon and my GP is the one who diagnosed it as a slight inguinal hernia.

The surgeon/specialist is the one who said he thinks it is muscle tissue that has been strained. I would be fine with the diagnosis as long as this strain goes away in a few weeks, if that's how long strains could last, and if I knew the tiny little bump was actually inflamed muscle and not a hernia.
