Re: GERD.HIATUS HERNIa, PROBIOTICS,MULTIVITAMINS,DIGESTIVE ENZYMES

Hi Kevin,

I have GERD, IBS and a Hiatal Hernia and I started taking supplements about a month ago and have noticed a great improvement in my symptoms.

I take a digestive enzyme with every meal and that has made the biggest difference. It has definetely improved my heartburn for sure.

I also take probiotics.

Mystic, Do you take DGL as your digetive enzyme? How long does it take before you notice a difference? I've tried it for a few days but haven't noticed much difference. However, my symptoms are mainly LPR ones so maybe it doesn't work for LPR.

Hi Kassie,

I do actually take DGL...but that is not a digestive enzyme. DGL is used to sooth the stomach lining (which it does).

You need to find a good digestive enzyme from a health food store. There are lots of choices and they are all pretty reasonably priced. I take one enzyme with every meal and the gas/bloating is pretty much gone. I have noticed a significant decrease in the heartburn also...but it does take awhile to notice a difference. I've been doing this for about a month now so give it some time.

You may think I am a nut job, but a natural remedy includes a bit of apple cider vinegar with honey taken when you have acid reflux which eases the heart burn. Or just a tsp. of the honey will help almost right away. My daughter has been taking Xantac for about 2 years, and recently it has been causing extreme constipation. Meds always seem to have side effects sooner or later.

Re: GERD.HIATUS HERNIa, PROBIOTICS,MULTIVITAMINS,DIGESTIVE ENZYMES

Dear Mystic Wingz,

I appreciate you feedback. I took probiotics years ago, and found they really helped my symtoms at the time. So I'll go back to a tried and true solution. I don't know what DGL is, but I'm like a dog with a bone...lol...and I'll find out what I need to know and get on that a.s.a.p.

Thanks for the great suggestions.

I'm needing a miracle here, as doctors can only do so much, and so far all my tests are negative.

P.S. I find eating an apple, or part of one, really helps relieve some of the pain (I have high uppper GI pain which becomes severely acute at times. I tried ginger tea (real gingerr) with honey tonight and it helped a bit. I'm so tired of going to the ER. Endoscopy is booked in two weeks...but in meantime, I'm going to be proactive and get on what I can on supplemental level.

Blessings,

MzMadz33
