Inguinal pain but no hernia

I had open surgery to repair a hernia with polyester mesh in 1995. Subsequently, I developed a large hydrocele on that side and that was repaired in 2007. Since then, I get intermittent and sometimes severe inguinal pain on that side lasting 2-3 days. The surgeon has tested both manually and by echography to see if the hernia has returned but the results were negative. I am now wondering if this could be IBS. Has anyone else here had a similar experience?

Re: Inguinal pain but no hernia

I have the same exact case as yours. I had an US and it shows Hydroceles. Waiting now for my appointment with an Urologist. I am curious as to what your update is now. I suspect I will have to have an operation soon. One curious thing, I think I also have a gastro problem in the pain area. I have scrotum pain on right side and lower right adominal pain. At times, I have no pain. Let me know if you have an update. Thanks

Re: Inguinal pain but no hernia

Certainly sounds very similar to my case. IBS which can be controlled with Spasmomen but not always. then a hernia type of pain, also on the right side.
Interesting for me is that I had a bad cold over Christmas, followed by a bad cough. One night I got out of bed at 3am, with a coughing fit and suddenly something went 'pop' in my right inguinal area. I immediately thought I had done some damage but, in fact, I have not had the hernia type of pain again since that night although I have had one or two instances of IBS at the same site. They immediately responded to treatment. So, that is about a month ago. Now I wonder if there was a small bowel pinch that was released by the coughing.
Don't worry about the operation for hydrocele. It's really very straightforward.

Re: Inguinal pain but no hernia

First of all always check that the doctor has not mistaken a testicle ride-up as a hernia. He has to dig in there to check it and he has to make sure the testicle has not moved up while testing. This is a common mistake made by physicians.

Another thing that happens is that you may have sat on your testicles and forced them up which would make them swell and hurt like a hernia.
