| Re: I have just had an inguinal hernia operation. What am i not supposed to do
First of all always check that the doctor has not mistaken a testicle ride-up as a hernia. He has to dig in there to check it and he has to make sure the testicle has not moved up while testing. This is a common mistake made by physicians.
Stay in bed!
Avoid putting strain on repair
Do not lift anything over 15 lbs.
roll out of bed slowly, do not lift up with stomach muscles and force them to left.
You will be in pain for at least 3 mos.
You do not walk out of a hernia operation and go to work in a day or so like the sellers of hernia repair claim. It is big business.
Never lift anything over 40# from hereon or you risk a recurrence.
I had laparoscopic balloon hernia repair with mesh in 2001. It was hailed as the perfect solution to hernia repair. I came out of hospital with no pain (shock full of pain killers) went home and the next day was in severe paiin, my penis was black and blue, my groin hurt like blazing fire, my legs hurt. I could not get out of bed. I stayed in bed for 2months and could not walk straight after that. My penis remained black and blue for 3 mos. The repair failed 5 yrs after. I am now facing open surgery and given the same Kool Aid (non truths) from doctor on how I will be walking in a day or so. Yes you walk to the car as you leave the hospital. but that's it.
it took me a year to get over the different pains of the first hernia repair. I never got over the leg pains I acquired from the operation. This time they have to open me up and remove the mesh to install a new mesh. I am told I might lose a testicle in the process. A terrifying ordeal.
I did a lot of searches online before my first hernia repair and all I could get were doctors advertizin how great the procedure was. After the operation I found sites in google (sites now closed) with many complaints of laparoscopic mesh hernia repair failures.
Good Luck!
