Re: herniated disc surgery or not??

Hi Bren
I also have problems with my back i had 2 mri`s and found out that i have 4 herniated discs, 2 in my lumbar and 2 in my thorcic, my back feels like its on fire, and my hips and buttocks go numb, im in extreme pain, my pcp tried all kinds of meds that did not help, i had 2 injections and i am on 15mg of morphine, which neither helped, the injections and morphine was ordered from a pain clinic, i believe my only option now is surgery, nothing seems to help the pain. i go back to the pain clinic friday and will keep you posted on what i find out..... hope you get to feeling better

Re: herniated disc surgery or not??

My mother about a year ago had a herniated disk on her L5. Her first surgury they trimmed off part of the disk to relieve some of the nerve pain. It worked for awhile. About six months after that she went back to her neurologist. They did a X- ray, CAT scan and an MRI. Her L5 disk that had been there before was almost barely there. She then had surgury about two months ago and they fused her spine together. She is doing alot better now, but still has some numbness in her foot, but the spasms and shooting pain are all gone.
Hopefully you both can find relief in whatever you choose to do.

Re: herniated disc surgery or not??

i wanted to comment on seeing neurosugon..
he was so very nice and did not even mention surgery of any kind..
his suggestion was we do a month of pt traction therapy to see if that will help..
after reading so much on here about it, iam going for the pt and all i can to prevent or prolong any kind of surgery!!!
