Drs. Cammisa or Sama at the Hospital for Special Surgery. The neurosurgeons at Columbia-Presbyterian-New York Medical Center(the one up by the GW bridge are good too. Know someone who did his ortho and spine residency there and loved the neuro spine surgeons.
Just make sure it's a surgeon who does nothing but spine surgery. I've personally seen Sama and liked him. Someone else here saw Cammisa and loved him but he is expensive. They are both orthos.
I've went to HSS for a second opinion and was headed to the Presbyterian for a third when I decided to go to Boston instead. Loved the doc there. Being in Connecticut it was just a little closer and easier drive. The Mass. Pike may be a pain but I figured anything they put in would get jarred loose on the Bruckner on the way home!
