Possible L/5,S1 herniated disc

I hurt my back at work in May 2010.I have lower back pain, burning down the back of my right leg and right foot feels like it is asleep.Had MRI done.It came back normal. My primary doctor sent me to an Orthopedic Surgeon. He looked at MRI and saw a possible herniated disc at l5,S1.Sent me to PT for awhile. It didn't help.Had two Steroid injections, they didn't help.Had a EMG done.It showed positive for a bilateral S1 radiculopathies.Wandering what all of this means.Still have lower back pain, burning down back of right leg.My employer doesn't have light duty so I am off work on Workmans Comp.Just looking for some answers.

>>>>>> Hi steelhauler, and welcome to the forum, tho I am sorry you need our help.

I'm not a doctor, but I have had back problems for 27 years now. In my experience, it sounds like you do have a nerve being pinched, possibly by a herniated disc. I would urge you to find an Orthopedic Spine Specialist or a neurosurgeon who specializes in spines. These are the best doctors to look at your Mri and correctly diagnose the problem. Again, I'm not a doctor but the fact that your right leg and foot are feeling like they are asleep and you have pain running down your leg is an indication of nerve damage. Nerve damage can become permanent if left too long without correction. PT, injections, etc. do nothing but put a band aid on the problem.

Please find a good doctor, then get a second opinion. Stay in touch with us and let us know how you are doing. Right now, I'm in the same situation. Having a myelogram and ct scan next Friday as it seems that I am also having nerve compression again. It's scary but necessary to do whatever it takes to stop any further damage.

I'll be watching the posts looking for you!

Carol
