I recently developed a hernia, went to the doc and it had slipped back through, causes me some pain from time to time but fortunately I didn't need the surgery. However, if the doc says 2 - 3 weeks then I'd say he means it. There probably will be some swelling and certainly some pain during the recovery. I understand your habit...been there and done that! However, I'd do what the doc says, you don't want to interfere with the healing process. How long has it been since you had a wet dream? I'd say be prepared!
