| Any Advice?
Ok I will start out with how all of my symptoms started about 4 months ago. About 4 months ago i started having a tight sensation in my upper left shoulder. At this time i had started running so i thought nothing of it. Then after a few weeks the pain in my shoulder started causing a sharp tingling pain down that same arm(left) all the way to my fingers and would sometimes cause my arm to feel very weak and numb. At the same time the left side of my neck would feel sore and the muscles in side of my neck would feel really tight. After awhile of this going on i went to my dr. She felt around and did and xray of my cervical spine and my shoulder. She said that came back fine and that maybe i should try a massage to help out the tight neck muscles.
I went to 5 massage treatments where the massage therapist said the left side of my neck was extremely tight, in paticular my SCM muscle and my scalenes. Long story short after 1 1/2 months i finally started getting relief from the massages and when the massge therapist would feel the muscle she said they were no where near as tight as they had been. Now 4 months later its been almost 3 weeks since my last massage......i took a break because my massage therapist is on vacation, plus my neck and arm had finally quit hurting! A few days ago i started noticing the dull ache coming back in my shoulder and my neck is feeling sore again. When all this started i was a nervous wreck and terrified there must be something wrong with my neck but every dr i have seen as well as massge therapist say they feel nothing abnormal in my neck its just tight. My question is, does this sound like something that could be a herniated disc or something similar? Ive also been having alot of reflux problems since this started and my ENT is sending me next week to a barium swallow test.....to the left of my throat is where it is the sorest, if there was something such a herniated disc would it show up on that or would that have to be a CT?
Also not sure if this has any signifigance but when i first noticed the neck/arm pain when i would smile really hard(if that makes sense) and it would cause the sides of my neck to "flex" the left side doesnt move or look the same as the right. My massage therapist says shes never seen this before but my dr and ENT say its nothing to be concerned about.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm only 26 and a mother to two young children and I feel so much older than i am with this problem going on for months as well as me fearing its something really bad.
