Could hiatal hernia cause LPR?

I recently found out I have a small hiatal hernia. I have a lot of mucus in my throat, I rarely feel heartburn and I seem to have all the symptoms of LPR except the coughing. Just wondering if my constant burping and bloating, which I assume is from the hernia, could be causing the LPR.

Re: Could hiatal hernia cause LPR?

Definitely. Hiatal hernia is a very common cause of reflux. I had one, and I mostly had LPR-type symptoms rather than heartburn.

PPIs may help LPR, but the effects are less dramatic than they are for classic heartburn. Things like eating small meals, propping up the head of the bed, and sitting/standing up straight after meals will help a lot.
