Umbilical hernia surgery aftercare question - still bleeding 2 weeks later

I had umbilical hernia surgery 2 weeks ago today. I did not have the mesh type and I am ignorant on medical issues. I am still leaking blood and other stuff. If I lean over it will drip out. I went to post op appointment and told the dr. one week after surgery. He gave me an antibiotic for potential infection and acted like it was normal. Is it supposed to still be leaking 2 weeks later? I am putting gauze to cover but it doesn't seem like it should be doing it. How long should I expect this? Thanks for any help.

Hi,

Have you talked to your surgeon or talked to his/her Duty Nurse?

If it's just blood weeping from under the surgical glue now used to close the incision, it's probably normal. I had blood that hadn't clotted under my surgical glue for a couple months and it sometimes seeped around the edges of the glue. My incision area looked pretty bad to me, but my surgeon said it was normal at my 2 week post op visit.

BR

Re: Umbilical hernia surgery aftercare question - still bleeding 2 weeks later

Thank you for replying. I went back to dr 6 days after surgery. I had another appointment but had to cancel due to conflict of schedule. The dr. is only in office 2 days a week and is off all next week. It is now over 3 weeks and the bleeding and other gunk coming out is better but I don't think it is supposed to be doing that and the nurse said that as well. She offered to get me into another doctor if it continued. My problem is not with them at all. As I said earlier, I am an idiot about medical stuff....I almost never get sick so I have no experience. I still have to cover with gauze and bandage to keep from getting on my clothes. Hopefully it will stop soon. Again, thanks for your response. I was hoping to hear that others experienced this and it was normal or ok. I didn't have glue that I know of, I had stitches.
