5 weeks with cold sore

Fortunately I just have the cold sore type herpes but it is really gross. I have had a cold sore for five weeks. It’s right at the corner of my lips so it’ s constantly breaking when I talk or eat. This is why it won’t heal. I also get them in my nostrils and on the outside of my nostrils.

When my allergies are REALLY bothering me, these cold sores appear. So, I’m eliminating dairy and tomatoes from my diet (big allergens) to build my system up.

I’ve heard that 50 percent of all adults carry the herpes 1 virus, even though many don’t show symptoms. I don’t know how I got it originally (it wasn’t sexual because I had them when I was a virgin). I believe I spread them from my own touch!

Very occasionally I get a slight, tiny rash on my penis. I believe I spread it from touching a cold sore and then going to urinate.

I believe that a healthy diet and building the immunity system is probably what I need to do.

Re: 5 weeks with cold sore

Both my husband and son suffer from the same thing. My husband like you gets them on the outside of his mouth/face area, my son gets them in his mouth.
They both started taking Lysine 500 mg to prevent them and 1000 twice a day when they feel one starting. It has helped a lot!!
My husband rarely gets one, and my son doesn't get them nearly as often as he did before. And when he does they do not get as big or last as long.

As far as you spreading them, you will. You need to wash your hands constantly!

There are certain foods I heard that trigger an outbreak. Pork is one.

Thank you very much for your help. I really can't afford to be getting these damn things because I'm an actor. I was just in an off-off broadway play and I had to use makeup for the damn thing. I am so fed up. You're right we need to wash hands constantly. I'll go to the doctor to get some Lysine. Thanks!

Re: 5 weeks with cold sore

James, you don't need to go to the doctors to get Lysine. We get it at the drug store and Sams club.
Also you might want to try vitamin E jell caps. Pop them open and put them on the sores. It will help them heal faster and not scar or look red for as long.

This may sound strange but it really works. Put salt on your cold sores. My daughter first told me about it - I was very skeptical. The first time I tried it I put some salt on an emerging cold sore on the corner of my mouth and kept it there for about 20 minutes. My cold sore still formed and made a scab and I thought - well - so much for the salt. But to my surprise, the healing time was cut in half. The next time I was getting a cold sore, I applied the salt 3 times during the day for 20 minutes each time and it completed eliminated it. Now whenever I start to get a cold sore in the corner of my mouth - I apply salt - the stupid virus apparently hates a salty environment. It works fantastic - have had no further problems with cold sores because I can always stop them now when they start forming.
