Protecting my Partner - Herpes Message Board

Hello everyone!
I have HSV-1, typical cold sores. I have recently started things with a new partner and am worried about giving him the virus via oral sex. I realize that I can transmit it to him during and outbreak, but i have also heard about this "shedding" period. Any advice as to keeping my partner herpes free?

I'll see if I can bump up the "Happy Couples" thread for you. This is an old thread that keeps getting bumped up because of all the stories and good advice in it about being with partners who don't have herpes.
