lol what's the worst that can happen?

It's my girlfriends 30th birthday today and we've both got HSv2. We've both been taking valtrex she's taking 2000 a day , i'm taking 1000mg a day. She's about 4 days ahead of me as far as the OB's go and we're both pretty much completely healed and over it, you can barely see where the bumps were. She says the only symptom she has is muscle tenderness in the area and i'm feeling pretty much the same way didn't have it half as bad as she did.

I'm wondering what's the worst that can happen if we fool around and use protection? not like we can reinfect each other. I'm thinking something's possible with protection and washing up right afterwards. after all it's her birthday...and we're having a seriously difficlt time keeping our hands and other body parts off each other....lol

anyone know what's the worst that could possibly happen, who has HSV2 ?

Re: lol what's the worst that can happen?

The worst is you can reinfect each other at a different sight. Herpes will always come out on the side of the body where you were infected (unless you were infected simultaneously on both sides) because it travels down the same major nerve pathway. But you can reinfect yourself on the other side. I know. I did.

You really have to decide for yourselves...but I've found that the "special event" idea is not a very good way of thinking if you have herpes. The idea that you should have sex because it is a special day can put a lot of pressure on you, and can make you feel that the day is a failure if you don't have sex. Better to put the emphasis on being loving, caring, communicative, and close.

I'm not saying I don't know how you feel. I watch my fertility cycle closely and always, every month, am dying to have real sex (oh, I hate condoms, and besides, they tend to rub me wrong and can cause ob's) once I stop being fertile. I used to really hate it if I had an ob at the time. But my good man sat me down and talked to me about it, and I've let go of that source of stress now. Basically, he said, Don't worry, when we can do it, it's great; when we can't, we're still great. It's just a matter of one thing that's great or the other.

I can't tell you how much his attitude means to me. It's one reason we're still great after over 13 years.

You know, I'm wondering the same thing. recently, I was in the book store and picked up a book called Tantric Secrets, valentines is coming you know, well i've been scimming through and it has a lot more info in it than I thought about ways to express and enjoy and make love with your partner, also read "Everything I Ever learned about herpes" It's on page 4 of the message boards. That may have some helpful info for you too.

Re: lol what's the worst that can happen?

Thank you everyone for your replies, they are very much appreciated. I found out that the herpes virus does not go through Latex. I suddeny had an idea and was able to give my girlfriend "a hand" and her birthday wasn't completely ruined. lol

who knew a pair of latex gloves could come in so "handy" ..lol

on anoter note it wasn't so much about the sex, it was about wanting to be super close to each other and very intimate with each other and it seems difficult right now, so i guess it pays to explore other possibilities of intimacy.

Can anyone tell me when it' supposedly "safe" to have sex ? I was thinking a few days after there is no sign of bumps anywhere or any tingling ???

I don't have any bumps anywhere that a rubber won't cover, so i'm thinking the chances of infecting someone are almost zilch, especially if we both wash up right away ??
