L-Lysine?

Hi,
Can some one please help me out with this, am not sure what I shoud do. I just bought my first bottle of L-lysine and I have never taken it before. I was wondering why do I have to take it on an empty stomache? Will the body not absorb it right if you take it after eating? Or what if I take it on an empty stomache right before I eat and then eat right after I take it? I like to eat and I usually dont have that empty of a stomache. Please help me if you can. I want to start taking these, but I just am not sure If it wont work if I have food with it.

Thank you,
Lime22

Re: L-Lysine?

I am not sure exactly how to take it but i take 1500mg as soon as i wake up then i usually eat 35 minutes later. I also take another 1000mg right before i go to bed. Maybe someone else on the board can give you some better information on this considering i am still new to all of this. Good luck.

I only take 500mg/day (cuz I'm really tiny and I don't want to overdo it. lol.) but I take it as soon as I wake up in the morning. I wake up around 5 a.m., get to work at 6:00, and then I eat at the hospital cafeteria around 8 a.m. (i work at a hospital). So I think agree that taking it as soon as you wake up is the best way to do it.

Re: L-Lysine?

Hi Wennie,

I have used L-Lysine for years to prevent and speed healing of Herpes. I take 1000 3x a day. First thing in the morning, 1/2 hour before lunch, and before bed.

The reason for not taking it with other food has something to do with the other ammino acids in the food combining with the Lysine or competeing with it for uptake. . .I used to know this, but it has escaped me. lol

Anyway 500 mg is probably not enough to do much good even if you are tiny. I'm not too big myself, 5" 3 1/2" and 110.

Right now I have a herpetic keratitis on my eye and the Lysine, unfortunately, does not seem to helping much.

Hey Spondylo! U think so? U think 500mg isn't enough. I just didn't want to overdo it. Plus my tummy seems to be a bit more sensitive now with taking the Valtrex and the L-Lysine. I've heard stories of L-Lysine eating away the lining of the stomach. So I just didn't want to do any damage. You know what I mean? Well, I have an appt. with the dr. at the end of the month. I'll get some advice from him then. Thanks for the "heads up" though. Very much appreciated.
