You mentioned "Type 2." Type 2 HSV is usually on the genitals, and therefore if you had genital HSV2, and no form of herpes on your face, you would NOT spread the virus. However, many have Type 1 HSV on their mouth, which CAN be spread just by kissing.
It can be more complicated: one can catch HSV2 on their mouth by having oral sex with some one who had genital herpes. In this case, HSV2 can be spread simply by kissing. And vice versa, some one with HSV1 on their lips (most common) can spread it by giving oral sex to some one else's genitals.
