Herpes from drinking and eating after someone? - Herpes Message Board

Hi,
I have a friend who has HSV-1. I did not know this until a little while ago. Before then we were at the mall, and i ate some of her ice cream and had a drink of her soda. I have a tiny tiny white bump on my lip, not on the skin its on the actual lip. Except it isn't a bump its not raised and it doesnt burn or itch. Could i have gotten it from eating and drinking after her?

It's quite possible. Does your friend get cold sores? I don't think it's a good idea, to share drinks/food with anyone. If the bumps are persistant, go to a doctor and get it checked out....In the meantime, no sharing, with anyone.....Good Luck, -Ornament

Well if she had cold sores they were not noticable then im not sure if she were in an outbreak or not.

Keep in mind that HSV-1 and HSV-2, for that matter and still contiguous, even if there are "no signs" of it. It's a virus, that stays in your system, it can remain dormant, but it is still transferable from one person to another, so don't share....-Orn

Doctors may tell you that's impossible but it is. I believe that's how I contracted the virus. I drank from a friend of mine who had been experiencing tiny red bumps all over her face and body (she and I didn't know it was herpes- she said it was due to stress from her final exams). I started showing symptoms within 3-5 days of drinking from her. I was also single at the time so I wasn't kissing or intimate with anyone. The first sign of OralH breakout is usually a painful sore in the roof of your mouth and also along the gum line; I got that info from research and personal experience.

You may not have contracted oral herpes since it's just a little white bump. On the other hand it may be herpes in a different manifestation. Just watch for any additional symptons (i.e sores, bumps, tingling) and be cautious of whom you share utensils and/or drinks with.
