Unhappy Just found out 3 days ago, not 100% but pretty sure...

Well, a week from today to be exact, It started with a nasty headache. Then i started having some serious itching problems "down there." About 2 days after this I talked to my mom, she suggested it may be a yeast infection. I'd never had one before and her decription was right on, Itchy, discharge ect...
So I went and bought myself some monistat, the 3 day treatment and hoped that would help.

Before I was able to use all 3 doses, I started getting bumps. On the inside and outside area of my vagina. It made it un-bearable to urinate. It burned so bad I let out a tear every now and then. I was taking cold wash clothes to the bathroom with me just to cool it down after i went.

I talked to my mom and told her I couldnt handle it anymore. I called my doc. office the next morining and asked for an asap appt. Because I was having "bumps" causing pain in my "lower region." They had me in at 11:15.

I went alone. She had me remove my pants and stuff, and put my legs in those sturups, she shined the flashlight down there and saw the bumps, It didnt even take her 10seconds to come up and say "well, i think its herpes."

I shot up and asked if she was kidding. Then I began to cry. I couldnt imagine from when. I've been with my current b/f for over a year now. And I hadnt had sex w/my X in 3yrs. She talked about things but it went in one ear and out the other. She took a swab test and told me 7days and she'd call. She gave me a prescription for Acyclovir 200mg 5times a day for 10days.

I cried all the way home. I walked in and my parents were there, my mom grabbed onto me, and i just cried out "she thinks its herpes!" My mom cried with me. And my dad jumped right into reality. Telling me im not a tramp, and i didnt give this to myself.

My next fear was my boyfriend, what would he do? I thought he'd leave me for sure. I called him and broke the bad news. He was devistated. I cried more. He still went to work that night and I gave him the okay to inform his parents since I mine know. (im 21 he's 22)

After work that night he came over and we talked, he told me he was scared, i told him if a blood test shows that he doesnt have it that I would understand if he wants to leave me. He said he's going to stay with me. That i'm the love of his life and he couldnt live without me. He even perposed. More tears!

Anyway im on day 3 of these Acyclovir pills and my sores are going away nicely. It doesnt burn as much when I urinate, but I still have the discharge. Im setting myself up for the fact that I BELIEVE i have herpes. I already bought a bottle of lysine. Im on the search for Red Marine Algea. I've been doing my homework and I'm so happy I found this site.

Also, I'd like everyones on input, what they think. Should I contact my X? My boyfriend would prefer I dont, but I'd like to know 100% if he gave it to me ya know? All advice will taken! I need it, it's still absorbing!

Thanks tons!

Can it take 3 years for Herpes to show up like that? I thought that once you have sex with someone who has it, then you get it soon after intercourse....a week or whatever, but 3 years?

I hope everything works out for you. Keep us updated. We'll be here.

Your current boyfriend should get a blood test for Herpes...and so should you. That way, you can tell if its a "recent" infection.

If you got Herpes very recently...you're likely to get a "negative" on the blood test, because it usually takes 1-3 months for a herpes blood test to be able to give a positive result.

Also, your current boyfriend should get tested to know his status. Who knows...he might have had it all along. Herpes can be tricky...you can be infected for years before symptoms show up.

Good luck.

Yes, I even asked my doctor after she told me thought it may be herpes. I said "even after 3 years?!" she said yep, it can stay dormant for any length of time.

As for the blood test we are already planning on getting my boyfriend one. He'd like to know if he has it. My doctor told me "If you have it, we believe you already gave it to your partner." So He's ancy, and would like a test. We are waiting till we know 100% that I have it before we get him tested though.

Im thinking I do have it. Ive been using that Acylclovir, and my sores are now going away, It doesnt burn to go to the bathroom much if any now. Thanks for the feedback!

Also, I know this may sound stupid but can you get type 1 herpes from type 2 even if your not having an outbreak? Because we have given each other oral? No sores on the mouth or anything, on either of us. What do you all think?

You don't get type 1 from type 2, you get type 2 orally. You can also get type 1 genitally. But I've had type 2 genitally for 15 years, been with my soulmate almost 13 years, and he's given me lots of oral...but never gotten it. Either place.

Your dr is more informed than many--she knows h can lay dormant. Some lucky people have it and never break out! Never even know it! So this could have come from anyone in your sexual past. And, as unlucky guy said, your boyfriend could have gotten it from anyone in his past.

Please read the recently-bumped-up Happy Couples thread, and many other threads on this board. You'll get lots of suggestions on how to deal with pain, and how to give your partner the best chance of remaining h-free, if he doesn't have it yet.

By the way, you've got a quality boyfriend there, you know?
