Desperately Seeking Help!!! Pain while urinating, now possible STD??

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a complicated story. I was diagnosed with HPV last year and began taking aldara to clear up my gential warts. After about six weeks of using the cream, I had a really bad reaction to the cream. The areas where I put the cream began to get really sore, and cause open sores, blisters, pain while urinating, and frequent urination. I thought for sure I had an STD because I had unprotected sex with a female. I went to the doctor, and he informed me that I had a bad reaction to the aldara. Since this reaction, I have had pain while urinating, including discharge of urine after peeing. After six more weeks, I went and saw a urologist and he put me on a cycle of doxycyline, and ciprofloxacin. This helped the pain subside, but after the cycle was over I still had pain while urinating. This eventually led to pain in my lower back, and kidneys. I went back to the urologist, and he diagnosed me with a possible bacterial or kidney infection. I had a blood test, and x-rays done which all came up normal. He then put me on another cycle of ciprofloxacin for two weeks. This has helped the pain in my sides go away, and the pain while urinating lessen, but not completely go away. About a week after taking the ciprofloxacin, I began to get a few painless red sores on my penis shaft. I immediately freaked out, and thought it was a possible herpes outbreak. The sores were not puss filled, and were tiny red sores that did not hurt, and were small. I also had an itching sensation in my genitals. After finishing the ciprofloxacin, the sores or rash went away. I am not sure if this was a possible herpes outbreak, or just an allergic reaction to the ciprofloxacin? I spoke to the girl I had unprotected sex with six months prior and she swears up and down that she has never had a herpes outbreak, or been diagnosed with herpes, and has been tested for it before. My question is is it possible I could have contacted herpes from her, and not had any symptoms for six months?, could the ciprofloxacin cause an allergic reaction such as red sores on my penis and itchiness (the cipro website says its possible to have a skin rash and itchiness to the medicine). Could a herpes outbreak cause my symptoms for six months (burning while urination, discharge after urinating, and pain in kidneys and side), or could this all be a urinary tract infection, or bacterial infection? Sorry for the long post, any advice is much appreciated!

Re: Desperately Seeking help!!! Burining while irritaion is it herpes?

Another note I would like to add is I have been having unprotected sex with my new girlfriend who is has never been with anyone else, and she has had no symptoms or outbreaks, if I defintely had herpes or an std wouldn't she be showing signs of somekind during the past three months? Could the pain in my sides and urinating be caused by a urinary tract infection, bladder infection, or bacterial infection? And those sores I had on penis just a reaction to the Ciprofloxacin? Thanks

It sounds a lot more likely that you have a bad urinary infection coupled with an allergic reaction to meds. But you could always get a blood test to find out if you've had it all along. Ask for a type specific, since you might have cold sores.

I am sorry if I read that wrong, but how I took it is that you are having unprotected sex with someone who was a virgin even though you were having problems. You have been having unprotected sex with this girl even while you have had open sores. Do you really think that is a good idea? The open sores is a really good way to spead a disease, no matter what it is, if present.

Did you at least, out of courtesy of her, tell her about your warts and the open sores? It is your responsibility to let her know and decide for herself if it is in her best interest to be having unprotected sex. Most of us who have an STD got it from someone being dishonest or not open about having it. HPV is a virus just like herpes.

Do what is right--You owe it to yourself and to her and to anyone else that comes along in the future to let them know.

Thats how I got HPV. I was VERY lucky that it was only a very low type so it didnt turn serious. I was a virgin and I had unprotected sex with a guy that didnt tell me. I regret it with all my heart so I would advise you talk to her and let her know of the possibility of her having HPV. IT is a very serous disease that needs to be treated because if it is untreated it could (in the long run) cause her cervical cancer and so on...

TO answer your question.... it sounds more like an infection to the meds. Try to see if you could try a over the counter cream that numbs the area.

Hey everyone thanks for your replies. To answer your questions. My new girlfriend is not a virgin, this is just her first time having unprotected sex, and yes I did inform her of my HPV, and I havent had any type of outbreaks in a long time. So to answer my question is it possible to have a reaction from a medicine like ciprofloxacin that would give me red spots or sores on my genitals? Could it have been just an allergic reaction to the medicine? Also how do you get tested for herpes? Is it just a blood test done at a Urology office? Thanks in advance

You might want to visit your doctor to find out if you are having an allergic reaction to your meds or if you read the paperwork given to you with your prescriptin (or on the bottle if over-the-counter) it should list side effects. You might be able to find a website that talks about your medication specifically and it might list side effects. The doctor can (or should be able to) test you for herpes also if you are concerned about that. They deal with that all the time, so there is nothing to be worried or embarrassed about. One in 5 people over 12 in the US have a form of herpes.
