Happy Birthday to me,,,,,

and my present was finding outI have herpes! How have others dealt with the initial shock and feeling of hopelessness? I have had outbreaks for quite a while, DR was convinced I had herpes. She did 2 cultures and they were both negative. I went to a specialist and the blood test came back positive. I am married, Dr thinks I got it from hubby's cold sores.

I just so feel so, well, ugh, why me, and feeling a bit sorry for myself. I know they can be treated. I have horrible, recurring , outbreaks,,,, so I guess in the back of my mind, I have known that I was misdiagnosed. I just told my husband, bless his soul, he was very kind and understanding.

I just feel soooooo sad and I am rather weepy at the moment. I just wondered what others di when they first found out,,,,,,

Re: Happy Birthday to me,,,,,

I was really depressed and upset...I was 3 weeks before the due date of my 3rd child. Sure enough, I went into labor a little early, while the sore was still there, and so had to have a Caesarean. But after a while you realize that you can take care of yourself, minimize the outbreaks, and life goes on much as always. Sometimes you can't have sex when you want to. You learn to do other loving things.

Please read a thread called "Happy Couples" (I'm going to bump it up if it's not on page 1), and read as much as you can here. This board has all the information and experiences of people who have been living with it for years. Try to believe that you are in shock, and it will eventually wear off. Be talking to you.

Re: Happy Birthday to me,,,,,

I just found out not to long ago too. I have always tested neg for this until now. I had culter done and that is how I found out.
My first reaction was that I seriously wanted to kick some butt because I was just so I don't know disapointed, lied to and part of me knew that this was going to affect my life.
It took everything that I had in me not to cry walking out of the building and it took even more strength in confronting the person I had gotten it from. Right now my OB is so horrible that I don't have the strenght to cry, I need it to learn, grow, heal and forgive.
((((Hugs))))

Re: Happy Birthday to me,,,,,

I too found out recently. I have been with my current boyfriend for 16months now and I found out just a month after our one year! It started with a nasty headache, vaginal discharge..you know!

So once the bumps started ALL over I went and had a cultural swab done, b4 my doc even took the swab she said she thought it was herpes which made me breakdown right away. I went home crying and assuming my b/f would leave me! I didnt know to confront my 2 X's or not.

I was upset and feeling depressed for quite a while. My b/f and I talked it out and he said he planned on being w/me forever anyway, and perposed! So ontop of our sobs for herpes, we sobbed about marriage! Very gut wrenching.

I try not to think about it. I know I have it, I know I have to try not and stress, I know it could have come from a cold sore now from my boyfriend, which I think is the case! Unfortunate I know.

But you will learn what causes Ob's what reliefs them. There is a garlic thread on here too. You mix virgin olive oil with garlic and you apply it to the sores , it suppose to releave major pain. I havent tried since I havent had another OB *knock on wood*. But you should try it, i read tons of success stories!

Good luck! You came to a good place! Lots of advice and help here!

Re: Happy Birthday to me,,,,,

So dream on and backpacker... If you were given herpes from your boyfriends cold sores that means the culture would have to test positive for herpes simplex 1. Type 2 is the classic herpes you get from gential to genital sex. Backpacker what did your tests reveal? And dream on I am suprised that the cultures were negative. But did the blood test say positive for type 1. And have you ever had a cold sore on your mouth before?
