Is it Possible?

say you had a coldsore, and its healing because the scabbings gone away, and you touch it out of habit daily..and you dont remember if you do. so if you were to touch teh sore, then like 2 hours later use your hand to please someone, would you pass on the HSV-1? and if it is how likely is that?? and is it possible at all to pass HSV-1 to the genitals?? and whats the likelyhood of that?

Re: Is it Possible?

2 hours is most likely too long for the virus to survive on your finger before touching someone else.

From what studies show, it's technically possible to pass it on that way but it has to occur immediately after you touch the sore when you touch another.

So, I doubt you passed it on after 2 hours.

Re: Is it Possible?

Yeah I agree with the above poster. The virus usually dies within a few seconds, so it's unlikely it was passed on after two hours. The virus doesn't particularly like the hard skin on your hands where it can't settle very well and is highly unlikely to have been active two hours after touching the cold sore.

It's a good idea to get into the habit of washing your hands after touching your cold sores. Without meaning to patronise you, you should also avoid touching cold sores where possible as this can just irritate them and hinder the healing process. If you want to put cream etc on there wash your hands before and after touching the sore - it doesn't need any more germs and soap and water readily deactivates herpes so if you wash your hands the virus should be gone.
