what happens with this?
I was just diagnosed with herpes 2 and a couple of days later had an outbreakall ove--it's gone on two weeks with blisters all over my mouth, seemed about to start again when i went on valtrex, still burning lips itchy but is beginning to lessen.
i have a lot of other questions. can it be that my partner really didn't know he had it?
I tend not to believe but is it possible that he was asymptomatic and shed it to me anyway!
to continue my question is, even on valtrex with herpes 2 oral will it be impossible to kiss with cerainty again or is that over?
Technically, no, it is not possible to kiss with certainty ever again. Valtrex does not completely prevent transmission. The virus still "sheds" and is contagious even while you are taking Valtrex suppressively.
As for your partner, yes, it is possible that he did not know he was infected. Some people have such minor symptoms, or even no symptoms at all, so they do not realize that they are infected. Assymptomatic shedding has been scientifically proven and is a real phenomenon. So yes, it is very possible that he infected you in this way. Good luck.
meh, how many people with coldsores stop and say "hey like two years ago I had a coldsore"...same with mono, that sheds.
Ive always heard oral type 2 tends to show rarely and sheds even less...theoretically it could cause problems but if you're kissing someone I wouldnt worry about it unless you have symptoms.
thanks for your replies, they are helpful
I have a pretty severe outbreak but it is my first and oral type 2, so who knows what's to come--should I expect that as genital herpes it could move to my genitals?
Did you blood or swab test positive for herpes type 2? What I am wondering is whether you have herpes type 1 on your mouth and herpes type 2 on the genitals, simply because this is a more likely explanation than you having oral type 2 - although oral type 2 is by no means impossible.

Sorry, I didn't see this post earlier. No, it will not migrate to your genitals, the virus will stay in the area that has been infected. In very rare cases, herpes does spontaneously migrate elsewhere - but this really is very very rare.
You should take care to always wash your hands after touching your mouth during an outbreak. There's a small possibility of reinfecting yourself genitally with whichever virus you have on your mouth (particularly in the early stages of having herpes, when the body has not built up significant antibodies). Do not worry too much - soap and water readily deactivates the virus so with attention paid to hygiene, it should be fine.
