Does anyone know if it is okay to take L-lysine on a daily basis for maintenance? Or should I only take it on a breakout? If so, how much should I be taking? Right now I am taking 1000mg a day. I was taking 2000mg during my breakout. What do you think?

I read in a herbal book to take 500mg to supress and 1000mg up to 6 times a day during an OB. Hope this helps.

For my entire life I have had to deal with getting cold sores 4-5 times a year. I started taking 500mg of L-Lysine a day and didn't have an outbreak for over a year. Now I take 1000mg a day and haven't had a break out in months. I also read that it is OK to take up to 4000mg of L-Lysine a day during a breakout...sounds like an awful lot, but after doing a little of research on it, I don't think it could do any harm. L-Lysine has done wonders for me!

I take 500mg a day for suppressive. I get a sunburn type feeling after sex, but have never gotten any sores or blisters since the first OB.
