I seem to have some thing around inside the top of my lip which I 1st noticed in 2001(only kissed one girl).I wouldn´t know what it is but it´s always there and has spread. I thought nothing of it as I´ve never been around.I´ve never had a coldsore,it doesnt itch,tingle,or have fluid etc coming from it.I was with a girl for a while &she didnt seem to have anything caught from me either? I´ve even had doctors look in my mouth from when Ive been sick & they havent said anything unless they didnt notice but it has always stayed present. haven´t actually been to the doctor about it yet, but when I went last time for having the flu, he looked inside my mouth and the whole "say aaah" deal. I would have thought if he had saw it he would say something. I even went to the dentist not long ago and he never said anything either(maybe it wasn´t his place to). Could this be herpes still? If it is then this is completely ******ed as I´ve been clean my whole life and have only kissed a couple girls yet people can go out and ******s everything that walks and never catch anything.

What you are describing in your mouth could be anything. If it has been there consistently for four years (rather than dying down and then reappearing), it is unlikely to be herpes, but some kind of other problem. The best thing to do would be to go to a doctor and get them to take a specific look at it.

There are several kinds of herpes viruses but the ones referred to as simply "herpes" are types 1 and 2. Type 1 is the virus which commonly causes cold sores on the mouth. It is in fact one of the world's most common viruses. Although infection rates seem to be dropping, probably a minimum of 40% of people have the virus. I am saying this to try to reassure you that your life is not ruined if you have herpes, and also to stress that this type of herpes is often acquired in childhood from family members etc and is not generally considered an STD (unless it has been transmitted to the genitals via oral sex or more rarely, through full sex from someone who has a genital type 1 infection).

Type 2 usually infects the genitals (rarely the mouth) and is somewhat rarer than type 1.
