Primary Acute Herpetic Gingivostomatitis (HSV1) and concentration/mental problems..

I have had HSV1 my whole ife, but was diagnosed with this over a year ago. For ten days I was in sheer agony. I drank exactly one cup of water, and one protein shake a day for the duration. I also couldnt talk becuase of the pain. I had terrible fever and slept about 1 hour a night becuase of fever dreams I had, and becuase the second I would fall asleep it felt like I was waking up in a puddle. I would cahnge shirts at least 4 times a night, and have 4 different towels every night because of the sweating. I got some zovirax, but it didnt seem to help at all.

On day 11 or twelve, I got in my car and was going to drive somewhere, and all of the sudden it hit me. I could no longer think straight. I had lost my focus, drive, and motivation. It was like I was watching myself from a movie instead of living it in first-person. It was like someone flicked the light switch to "off." I have been to a few doctors, and none of them were able to help at all. They basically said they didnt know what the problem was. Yes, I have been living like this for over a year now, and it truly is hell. It feels like I have a fog around me all the time, struggle to find words, and feel like I am drunk (well, sort of, more like a "disconnected" feeling).

I have read that and large outbreak of HSV1 can cause neurological problems, but not of this magnitude. I was wondering if anyone has heard of anythign like this, or can suggest anything at all?

Great board here guys, and thank you.

well it's not surprising that you should notice that after 10-12 days of not eating, drinking, or sleeping properly. as for it continuing, i would see a neurologist who can help you to either find a physiological cause or determine that it is stress related. In the mean time eat and sleep well and get in some good exercise (if you don't do those things already). It's amazing how much a good well-rounded lifestyle can do for you.

also, are you saying that was a primary infection? because if you had it your whole life then it wouldn't be a primary infection, so I was wondering if you had any guesses as to why a non-primary outbreak would be so bad.

Anyhow...I hope you get some answers! That sounds like a crummy way to feel all the time.

I screw up writing that. It was not primary, sorry.

I plan on going to a neurologist soon. I will updated everyone.
