How can you tell the difference between a primary oral herpes outbreak (fever blisters inside the mouth) vs. regular canker sores.?

The doctor way back in March said it was possible it could be type 1 herpes. He did no tests. I went back to take blood test and they don't want to do that because I don't have anything to culture at this present time. I've never had any cold sores forming since then or ever.

I also had oral sex done on me (I'm a guy) at the same time in March. I first went to the docs right after syptoms started , a couple days after the encounter. I had a little pain on the head of my penis. He gave me 1 gram cipro and 7 days of doxycycline. The symptoms persisted through the antibiotic treatment except fot the pain in my penis head ,Swollen left groin gland, pain in my urethra and bladder. I went back after the 7 days of doxy.. The light pain in my penis returned so he looked in my throat and saw two cankersores in the back lft of my throat and said it was probably type 1. He gave me 10 days of Valtrex 1 g twice a day and it made no difference, the 2 canker sores went away in 8-10 days and never returned. Symptoms persisted for another 3 weeks, I went back telling the doc I had pain in my laft testicle and my prostate area felt sore. He said i was worring myself too much. I pleaded with him to refer me to a urologist. I met with the urologist and she found I had a bacterial prostate infection. I've been on 4 weeks of meds and still have two weeks to go.
Going back to march about a week after encounter I had this little rash on my penis head that had a couple irregular non round impressions, they have been there ever since ( over 2 months) It turns out it's a fungal type thing. I can't believe all this came from a mouth.

At the time he gave me Valtrex I told him that I wanted to take blood test to confirm in 8 weeks he said " why do you want to do that? What's that going to do?"Twice he said that, then he he said " Go out, have fun have sex, but be safe".
I went a couple days ago to get a test just to make sure, I haven't had any symptoms to rely on except for the two canker sore looking things, but I kissed this girl so If she had bacteria or fungis in her mouth it may have been my body reacting to it and causing 2 canker sores.
So they wouldn't test me because there's not enough evidence to take a blood test.
So I'm saying screw it.

It looks like person who gave you oral sex had herpes 1 in their mouth at that time and infected you. Did you noticed any cold sores on that person's lips? But it could have been also inside of that person mouth and you would not see it.

If it was herpes 1 virus, unfortunately you will never get rid of it and it will be bothering you for the rest of your life. This virus remains in your body and will act up under stress or for no reason. At that time it is contagious. Do search on herpes on internet to learn as much as you can about it and perhaps you will figure out that it is not what you think or your Dr. thinks it is. That would be good. In any case, if you can keep it private, start writing detailed notes about it so you can figure it out in some time. And for heavens sake do not have anything to do with the person who gave it to you. ALSO do not even kiss with anyone when you have sores in your mouth...you will infect other person with it and they will have to for rest of their life. You will have to learn to live with it and make sure that you are not infecting others. Good luck.

One more thing. I hope that all who are reading it will learn from your experience and have only PROTECTED sex. It could have been AIDS with death sentence instead of herpes.

Condoms are not protection from herpes. Please don't rely on condoms. Many people here on this board contracted herpes while having so-called protected sex.

You definitely should get a blood test, although they are not 100% reliable. Can you go to a different dr? And why should a dr call the shots? If you will pay for it, why should he not allow you to take a blood test?
