Genital Herpes 1 questions

Hello everyone!

I was diagnosed with genital herpes type 1 a year ago. I contracted it from my ex whom had oral herpes. If only I would have known then what I knew now...but anyway I guess he was in his shedding period and I didn't know he even had it!

Now to get to the questions. I have had about 5 outbreaks since then. Not nearly as bad as the first, but this time it seems like it. I also started getting sharp stabbing/cramping pains in my uterus right after menstruation, since this is only a recent thing could the type 1 be causing it?
My doctor also said there was no need to tell future partners?!?!?! I know that most of the population has type 1 anyway, or at least half, but if I caught it through receiving oral, could it not be passed to another person? It just all confuses me and I'm sorry if I ramble on. But if that is the case wouldnt they just get oral sores? I have not been sexually active since. I have actually only had the one partner. I just get worried to think that I could pass this mess on to someone else. A year later and I am still quite bothered by it. Maybe if the outbreaks would let up. Also does anyone else get irritable and loss of concentration right before and during outbreaks?
Thanks and I apologize if this didn't make sense. Too many things racing through my mind to ask.

Re: Genital Herpes 1 questions

Yes.....you can definately transfer this to someone else. A viral infection is most contageous just before the outbreak. You can usually feel an outbreak coming on by the burning, itchy feeling. Your partner is probably safe if you have no symptoms at all at the time, but better to be safe than sorry right? Protect yourself and your partner. The pain you feel during the month could possibly be the Herpes, but I'm not a doctor......better to ask a professional.

That dr sounds as if he needs his license revoked. No wonder this virus is such an epidemic. You have much better sense than he does.

Please read the "Happy Couples" thread. A lot of people tell what they do to protect their partners. It's a long thread, but worth the read.

I can't tell if the irritability (or more noticeably the exhaustion) I have right before an ob is a result or a cause of the ob. But, yeah, I have emotional symptoms, not just physical.

good for you for having the good judgement to question your doctor. You absolutely need to tell future partners, but it sounds like you already understood that!

Re: Genital Herpes 1 questions

Twixy,

Actually, I can see where your doctor is coming from. Most of the population does have HSV 1, I think the 80% figure was pretty correct. And this is why people do not go around telling other sexual partners that they have HSV 1 before having sex. I have been with multiple sexual partners, and no one has ever told me before sex they had HSV, when 80% of these people probably did.

So just because you have HSV 1 in your genital region and not your oral region, I don't see why the case would be different for you.
