strange question - Herpes Message Board

I know this sounds weird but w/ all the crazy cold sore remedies flying around, I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I've gotten cold sores since I was a kid, very painful ones. Currently I'm using Abreva during the onset, then after it starts to blister I dab on lysterine and loads of salt to dry the sore. Just recently I had a brief yeast infection which I treated with boric acid, thanks to these forums and othe recommendations. I know that boric acid is toxic and you shouldn't swallow it, put it on an open cut, etc. But I was wondering, since the sore is on the outer edge of my lip, would it hurt to put a dab of boric acid diluted with lots of water on the sore? I wonder if it would help to dry it up. Have you guys ever heard of this? Thanks in advance.

I've never heard of that. But, that doesn't mean it won't work. You kinda sound like Bill Nye the Science Guy.

I'm not sure either, but i have read that applying toothpaste to oral herpes helps clear it faster. I recently had one at my lip and applied toothpaste on it and it was unbelievably soothing and cooling. Just remember to take the toothpaste off before going out in public
