Hi I have a quick question. I have had a sort of dull pain, almost like a bruise, but no sign of anything. It is on my left buttock close to where my leg meets up with my body near my anus. Is this a sign that I could have herpes? I kind of looke up on the internet my symptoms and it mentioned herpes, so I am really scared. I have had no other symptoms. Can you help me?

I hope that someone will be able to help me. I did have protected sex about 2 weeks ago. If the ache I have is herpes, wouldn't there be sores or anything? it wouldn't just be a pain would it? I have had the pain for about a week or so. I hope those of you that know can share some info with me please.

Herpes presents differently in different people, so it could be herpes or something entirely different. or even nothing at all. Even if it is herpes, it could be a recurrent infection that you've carried with little or no symptoms for some time. When you say protected, I assume you mean you use a condom. Condoms aren't that great for preventing herpes. they prevent fluid borne diseases and hsv is contracted from skin-to-skin contact. Since a condom would only cover your penis, it would only protect your penis, not the area you described. You can get tested now and if it comes back negative you can ask for a repeated test 12-16wks after you suspect you were exposed.

I don't see any signs of redness or blisters or anything. Would there have to be sores? I just can't imagine what might cause this type of dull pain in my groin, besides herpes. I am not sure where to go to get tested. I live in a pretty small town and the odds are that someone in the DR> office would know me. I also don't have insurance. I don't know what to do.

No, there don't have to be sores. It doesn't matter if someone in the doctor's office knows you. And if you don't have insurance you can go to a county health clinic or planned parenthood in a nearby city. It doesn't sound like herpes, but all you can do is be tested.
