I have heard that one of the first signs of Herpes can be burning during sex. Is this true? I have been having a slight burning sensation during intercourse lately and my vaginal area swells like a balloon each time. My doc said that the only std it could be was Herpes but he saw no evidence of it. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I have no other symptoms. No itching, discharge, odor, pain, etc. Just the slight sensation during penetration and the severe swelling following sex. (my vagina gets very red) The swelling goes down after 2-4 hours.
Thanks for the replies. I do use condoms but not ones with spermicide. The swelling was still happening even w/o use of a condom though. I ended up seeing two physicans and the 2nd one figured out that it was most likely due to fabric softner. So I have washed all my things and had my boyfriend wash his stuff as well. We won't be using it anymore and I will see in the next few days if the swelling ceases. I didn't have a yeast infection. In fact, my doc said there was no sign of yeast @ all which is unusual. Both docs said I was very heathly. (knock on wood) Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
I'm not 100% sure, but do believe i've red of a similar thing happening to a couple of other ladies who posted on one of the sexual health sites on this board. A number of people replied saying it could be a form of allergic reaction to your partner's sperm.
If it's not a yeast infection and you don't use condoms or any lubricants, the only other thing i can think of is are you well lubricated prior to actual penetration? The other thing to think about is he your first partner or have you had other partners and if so has the same thing happened with your previous partner/s?
Also, if your doctor tested you for yeast, did he test for anything else such as bacterial vaginosis? chlamydia? etc etc. Try posting on the sexual health board and you might get more suggestions there.
